Summer Event 2008
at the Minnesota Historical Society
Saturday, August 23, 2008, 11:30 am
The Maud Hart Lovelace Society is planning an event for MHLS members and all interested Minnesotans at the Minnesota Historical Society on August 23, 2008, in celebration of 150 years of Minnesota statehood. The Minnesota History Center is located at 345 Kellogg Boulevard West in St. Paul.
11:30 a.m. Lunch
We will gather for lunch at the cafeteria on the main floor of the History Center. After lunch, participants are free to tour the MN150 statehood celebration exhibit at their own pace.
2:00 p.m. Fur Trading in Minnesota
History Player George Nelson, a fur trade clerk, will talk about his experience trading with the XY, North West, and Hudson’s Bay Companies. The presentation will last about 50 minutes and promises an interesting look at early 19th century fur trading life in Minnesota. This is particularly important because this is the time frame and period setting of Maud’s book Early Candlelight, her most critically acclaimed adult historical fiction novel.
For more information about George Nelson visit the MHS website.
There is no charge for this event but participants will have to pay an entry fee to the Minnesota Historical Society if they are not society members, and parking fees will apply.
Please RSVP by August 15, 2008, and join us for what promises to be a fun and informative afternoon learning about the history of our great state.
