| Marion (Marnie) Willard grew up in Mankato, Minnesota in the early 1900s. A forthright, friendly and conscientious girl, she made friends easily, a trait that stood her in good stead when she went to college … Vassar! Marnie loved Vassar, and wrote vivid letters describing her life there. After graduation in 1914, Marnie returned to Minnesota and taught school. Soon she met a nice young man from a prominent Waseca family.
His name was Bill Everett, and though his father was the richest man in town he was an easygoing, unpretentious young man. Their courtship was interrupted by WWI, during which they wrote long letters to each other. They were finally married in 1919, moved to Minneapolis and started a family.
A nice, ordinary life, right? Except one of Marnie’s oldest friends was Maud Hart Lovelace, who wrote wonderful books about her childhood friends. So nice, ordinary Marnie will be remembered forever as Carney Sibley.
